The U.S.Olympic Hockey Team's victory over the Soviet Union in 1980 still ranks as one of the greatest upsets in the history of sports. The Soviet team had been dominant for many years, and had beaten teams made up of NHL players many times over the years, so most everyone thought they would just be handed the Gold Medal.

But the games were on our home turf, so to speak (Lake Placid), and the team was made up of quite a few players from New England schools, including BU grad Craig and Captain Mike Eruzione from BC. In fact, former UNH standout Ralph Cox was the last player cut from the squad.

That was 36 winters ago, and now Craig is auctioning off 17 prized possesions including the jerseys, skates, mask and stick he used during the improbable run for gold.

Jim Craig says the decision to auction the items off has "nothing to do with money". He simply doesn't know what to do with the items.

To check out and bid on the items, go here. The auction will run through June 17 and could bring in more that $5 million.
