The bird was seen standing in the center of the Turnpike in Milton. The driver spotted it, pulled over, wrapped the hawk in a jacket and brought it to Milton Veterinary Clinic.

The hawk was then taken to a wildlife rehabilitation center in Henniker called Wings of Dawn. In an article at Fosters.com, manager Maria Colby thinks the outlook is good for the bird.

"The hawk did not suffer any broken bones or serious injury," she said. "It probably just got whacked and was stunned. It's clearly young and hasn't learned the proper skills needed to capture prey," she said. "I want it to have a safe place to recover and learn those skills before releasing it."

She think's the hawk probably suffered a concussion. Maria Colby also thinks the bird will heal in a couple of weeks.

Police would like to caution people that as nice as this deed is, it's not always a good idea to stop your car on a turnpike as people tend to drive fast and might not see you until it's too late.
