Growing Up Granite State: 9 Nostalgic Memories Every New Hampshire Kid Remembers
Growing up in New Hampshire in the 70's and 80's was a great experience.
We met every political candidate that ran, no matter how old you were. Every presidential candidate - Jimmy Carter, Ronald Regan, George H.W. Bush and Bill Clinton all made their visits to the Granite State.
We met the candidates that didn't win too. I had my money on Gary Hart. Not the first time I've had bad judgement.
Aerosmith Lived in New Hampshire
We knew members of Aerosmith, J. Geils Band, The Cars and Boston because they lived in New England and played in all the clubs.
If we couldn't get into the clubs, we all knew somebody who could make a fake ID for us to get into the Brothers 4 in Nashua.
What Did We Do Before Cell Phones?
It was before cell phones and internet service, so we had to find stuff to keep us occupied like heading to Canobie Lake Park in Salem for the day. Or, we would head up to the White Mountains to visit the now dearly departed Old Man of the Mountain.
We Learned How to Forage for Food
Every NH kid had the opportunity to learn how to fish and forage for mushrooms and fiddleheads. To this day, the best thing ever for me is to go on a hike to gather dinner.
NH kids knew you could eat dandelion greens before Whole Foods made it cool.
