Flying Out of Maine, Massachusetts, or New Hampshire This Weekend? Some Airlines Offering Waivers Due to Flight Cancellations
Over the last few days, we have heard about how Winter Storm Fern will likely impact Maine (and the rest of New England) on Sunday into Monday.
As we all know from past experiences, when we get nasty weather like this we often have to deal with the cancellation of flights.
It looks like several major carriers that service New England have made arrangements for the possibility of flight cancellations due to the weather.
According to an article on the WMTW website, these waivers will allow travelers to rebook their flights without facing the fees that would normally happen with a flight change.
Delta says it has issued a broad travel waiver covering eastern North America. Some flights in North Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Tennessee were already canceled Thursday.
For Portland, and other airports across New England, Delta’s waiver applies to flights scheduled between January 24 and January 26. New tickets must be issued by January 29.
American Airlines also has a travel alert in place for Portland and much of New England. That covers flights scheduled between January 24 and January 27, with changed flights needing to be booked by January 27.
As of Friday morning, Breeze Airways said passengers with flights to or from Portland, and several other East Coast airports, on Sunday can rebook to any day within 14 days at no additional cost.
Southwest Airlines is warning travelers to expect delays and cancellations this weekend that could impact Portland as well. The airline says rebooking may take longer than usual due to the scope of the disruptions, but passengers can rebook or fly standby within 14 days of their original travel date without paying a fare difference.
