The city of Holden recently stepped up big time recently.

"Serving the community" is a phrase we often here. But what does that mean exactly?

Well, in my opinion it means not only delivering your goods and services but taking that extra step and going above and beyond when your citizens are in need.

That's exactly what the Holden Maine Police Department did.

According to their Facebook page, an elderly resident sadly ran out of oil. Many of us have been there many times before.

I remember just this Christmas eve, I ran out of oil and thanks to Big G's Heating Fuel, we were rescued and had a warm Christmas.

But so many people are unable to afford a last minute delivery. That was the case for this one elderly resident.

According to the Facebook post, he ran out of heating oil and reached out to the Holden PD for financial assistance.

So this is what those incredible people at the PD did, they called a local oil company and spoke to them about the situation. Because they took the extra step to reach out and help, they we able to fill this resident's tank, on the same day!

How were they able to afford this?

Well, we all know fuel is anything but cheap, but because of the Holden PD's 25 Days of Kindness, they were able to assist this person in need. If you are unfamiliar with this incredible program, I suggest you read this article from News Center Maine!
