A huge 500-pound 9-foot figurehead fell to the ground in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

Stefanie Corrine Cook saw it early in the morning in front of the Martingale Wharf building. The figure had been mounted to the Bow Street building since 2019 and hopefully is not down for the count.

This has been an iconic hanging monument of the area, and Stefanie hopes it will be fixed. She has been cleaning offices at the Martingale Wharf building for years. She told Seacoast Online,

It’s definitely a staple for the building and hopefully they can repair it.

How did the figurehead fall in Portsmouth, New Hampshire?

No one knows for sure, but it appears to have just become disconnected from the building. Seacoast Online tried to reach the owner of the Martingale Wharf and the artist but was unable to.

According to Seacoast Online, the 9-foot figurehead was the idea of the Martingale Wharf owner, Mark McNabb. The building was named after an 1800s ship that was blown into the building during a storm. At least, that's how the story goes. So he got artist Steve McHenry to build the figurehead. Steve spent a year carving this incredible tribute to folklore. He called it Sandy Debris. I hope they restore her because the Martingale Wharf is a gorgeous part of Portsmouth, New Hampshire and it wouldn't be the same without her.

Was anyone hurt when this figurehead fell from the Martingale Wharf in Portsmouth, NH?

No! Thank God! That would have done some serious damage, but the good news is that it happened sometime in the middle of the night. Stefanie and many who have commented hope it gets restored and placed back onto the building.
