
Saying Goodbye: Here Are 5 Maine Restaurants That Closed in April 2025
The first three months of 2025 saw over 20 Maine restaurants close their doors for good.
Saying goodbye is hard, whether it's been a recently opened place you enjoyed or a longtime staple you've had many memories in.
Sadly, April is seeing a few more restaurants ending their run and adding their names to the closure list for the year.
Ancho Honey in Tenants Harbor, Maine
Ancho Honey in Tenants Harbor, Maine, announced on a post on Facebook on April 4 that it would be closing for good.
After months of reflection, the owner cited rising costs, staffing challenges, and personal priorities like spending more time with his growing daughters as the main reasons behind the decision.
The takeout restaurant opened in 2019.
Elevation Burger in Portland, South Portland, and Augusta
According to the Portland Press Herald, Elevation Burger opened its first Maine location in 2012 in South Portland.
The organic burger chain quietly closed all of its Maine locations in early April: Augusta, Portland, and South Portland.
According to the restaurant's website, only nine locations are left in the United States, with none in New England.
Oak & Ember in Buxton, Maine
Oak & Ember in Buxton, Maine, announced on Instagram on April 11 that "with the heaviest of hearts we announce our closure."
While the exact reasoning for the eatery's ending wasn't revealed, thanks and appreciation were shared in the Instagram post for the people who showed up and supported them.
The farm-to-table restaurant opened in 2023.
The Hamburger Stand in Biddeford, Maine
The Hamburger Stand in Biddeford, Maine, announced its closure on April 16 on Facebook.
Rising costs, increased rent, and post-COVID challenges were cited as the reasons behind the hard decision.
The Route 1 staple opened in 2016.
HiFi Donuts in Portland, Maine
HiFi Donuts in Portland, Maine, announced in March on Facebook that it would be leaving its downtown location in April. Its last day was April 17.
The reason for the closure? Turns out, they were unable to negotiate a lease agreement.
That said, this isn't the end of HIFi Donuts as they are now looking for a new location to set up shop.
The downtown Portland spot opened in 2017.
