Maine’s Own Cooper Flagg Breaks LeBron James’ Record With Historic 42-Point Night
To say it’s been a productive rookie season so far for Cooper Flagg would be quite the understatement.
The Maine Event has been just that for his Dallas Mavericks team, which has started to look a lot more competitive as we approach the holiday season.
Flagg has been more than just a scorer for the Mavs. He’s been the unquestioned leader, having to play numerous positions, including point guard, due to continued injuries on the roster. To ask any young player to do this is a lot, but to ask an 18-year-old with just a handful of games under his belt is quite telling. Clearly, this team trusts Flagg, and they should.
Cooper Flagg Just Broke the Single Game Rookie Scoring Record
Not only has he been up to the task, but he keeps getting better with each game. Now, Flagg has accomplished something no other 18-year-old has ever done in NBA history: scoring 40 points in a single game.
The Mavericks played the Utah Jazz on Monday night in a game so tight it had to be settled in overtime. Flagg was an absolute monster, leading his team with an incredible 42 points in a game the Mavs ultimately fell short in.
Flagg’s 42 points surpassed LeBron James’ single-game scoring record for 18-year-olds (37 points), which he set during the 2003–04 season. Not a bad night to break a LeBron record and becoming the only 18-year-old ever to score 40+ points in an NBA game. Take a bow, Cooper.
The Dallas Mavericks Could be a Playoff Team
Even though the Mavs lost, the team has been playing much better as of late, winning five of their last seven games. Flagg has been a huge factor in that resurgence, averaging nearly 27 points during that stretch.
