Old Farmer’s Almanac Forecasts ‘Calmer, Gentler’ Winter for Maine
Summer is in the rearview and fall has arrived. For many people throughout Maine, fall remains their favorite season. Not too hot, not too cool but just right. Don't have to battle with air conditioning or snow removal.
For others, fall is simply the buffer to the season they dread the most. A season typically filled with increased storms, poor road conditions, bitter cold and endless darkness.
The Old Farmer's Almanac Winter Prediction for 2024-2025
If you believe in long term predictions and forecasts, much of what many Mainers hate about winter is unlikely to arrive this forthcoming season. According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, Maine should prepare itself for a "calmer, gentler" winter then in years past.
The devil is always in the details. The Old Farmer's Almanac isn't forecasting no winter, just one that will feature less prominent storms, less bitter cold and less overall danger than what Maine has seen in recent years.
Winter Temperatures in Maine Predicted to Be Warm
The Old Farmer's Almanac is forecasting that Maine will see temperatures that will range from 4 to 6 degrees higher than normal averages for much of the winter. That isn't necessarily new for Maine as several winters in the last decade have been mild.
The Old Farmer's Almanac does predict that the middle of December as well as the last week or two of February will be the coldest stretches of the winter for Maine.
Is It Going to Be a Snowy Winter For Maine?
There will be snow because there always is. But the Old Farmer's Almanac isn't following the same prediction path that you might find elsewhere. Instead, the Old Farmer's Almanac is forecasting below average snowfall for this coming winter.
Not only that, the Old Farmer's Almanac is predicting that the big, powerful storms may simply not arrive this winter. Instead, Mainers can expect some snow periods at the beginning of December, the middle of February as well as early March.
