There is a handful of places throughout Portland, Maine, that locals have been trying to keep a secret as more and more tourists flock to the city.

One of those places has been Tony's Donuts, an unassuming bakery that sits just off one of the busiest streets in the entire city.

Tony's Donuts isn't flashy. The inside of the shop isn't adorned with bright colors and their selection of donuts and pastries doesn't include wild flavors or anything truly inventive. But everything is incredibly delicious and incredibly consistent. It's been that way for a very long time.

Tony's Donuts in Portland, Maine, is For Sale For The First Time Ever

For more than six decades, Tony's Donuts has been a family affair. A donut shop that was started by Antonio Fournier in 1965 and then passed onto to his children.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the family business is about to change. The Fournier family has put Tony's Donuts and the building it calls home up for sale. The listing for the business, including the price, does not appear to be public at the time of this writing.

The Future of Tony's Donuts Remains Unclear

As the Portland Press Herald states, the hope of the Fournier family is that someone who loves the business will look at the history and success of Tony's and keep the train moving. But there's no guarantee that will be the case.

Given Tony's location along Congress Street, it's entirely possible someone may purchase the business more for the real estate than the donuts.

Until a buyer is found and a purchase is in place, Tony's Donuts will continue to operate as normal. If you're a fan of the best donuts in the city, it may be wise to make a visit to the shop sooner rather than later.
