Boston, Massachusetts Chosen as the Best Smelling City in America
I never would have guess that A) a city would have a particular smell and B) that Boston would be on the top of the list, but it's true.
According to mentalfloss.com, Boston came out on top as the best smelling and I think I know why.
Mental Floss only looked at 30 cities across the country, so the smaller cities were not considered for this poll. They based their findings on things like number of candle stores, bakeries, perfume stores, flower shops, air quality, how much green space it has and cleanliness.
Boston is the Best Smelling City in America and Here's Why
Based on the above criteria, I think I know why Boston was chosen as the best smelling city in the country. I don't remember any specific "candle stores" in Boston, but at Haymarket Square, they have a great Farmer's Market with fresh flowers that smell amazing. But, that's not the reason why I think Boston got the top honors.
Boston's famous North End filled with the best Italian pastries in America is why I believe that it was chosen as the best smelling city in the Country. Specifically, Mike's Pastries and Bova's Bakery. Bova's, by the way, is open 24 hours, which is AMAZING if you have a craving at 3am. Both shops who have been doing it for decades in Boston. The smells that come out of those two places are enough to give Boston top honors for the best smelling city in America.
Don't get me wrong, there are other amazing bakeries in Boston's North end. It's the place to go.

I just thought of another reason. If you've ever been on Lansdowne Street in Boston and smelled the sausage carts next to Fenway, you've smelled a piece of heaven right there. Even vegetarians drool.
Boston is my favorite big city and to be sure and the bakeries are a big part of that. I also love the Red Sox, the sausage carts, the Boston Public Library, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, I could go on. Happy to add this to the list of great things in Bean Town!
