The city of Dover will begin a week-long overnight paving project on Central Avenue through the downtown area Tuesday night.

The street will be repaved between the railroad tracks and Hale Street over the next week.  The first step of the project, which starts at 7 p.m., is to grind the pavement 1 to 1.5 inches so the new pavement will keep the same pavement-to-curb height.

Central Avenue from the railroad tracks to Washington Street will be milled first. Crews will then mill from Washington Street to Hale Street.

Parking Restrictions in Place

The next step of the project is to adjust stormwater drain grates and maintenance hole covers before repaving can begin. The repaving should be complete by Tuesday, September 20. The timetable of the project could be affected by weather.

The project will also create a rough surface, likely slowing traffic.

Parking will also be prohibited on both sides of Central Avenue between 7 p.m. and 6 a.m. during the first two nights of the project, according to the city.
