An arrest was made after an out-of-state threat shut down Scarborough High School on Tuesday.

The threat was received via text by a student who reported it to Scarborough Police Monday night. Investigators tracked the origin of the threat to a juvenile located in another state. They were arrested with the assistance of "an outside law enforcement agency", and criminal charges are expected.

Scarborough Police did not disclose the identity of the teen, what state they were in, or the nature of the threat.

"The Scarborough Police Department wants to assure the public the threats made during this incident are no longer credible," the department said in a statement.

Class resumed Wednesday morning with "assurance and support" and a police presence, according to a message to parents from Superintendent Geoff Bruno obtained by the Portland Press Herald.

Bruno said the message was specific to October 4.

The Scarborough School District did not respond to Seacoast Current's request for more information.
