Gov. Chris Sununu has endorsed Karoline Leavitt in New Hampshire's First Congressional District.

It's a tight race for 25-year-old Republican Leavitt, who would be the youngest member of Congress if she beats Democrat Chris Pappas on November 8. She  came out of the primary trailing the incumbent 47% - 42% in an Emerson College/WHDH poll, and 50% - 43% in a Granite State Poll conducted by the UNH Survey Center.

In his endorsement, Sununu reiterated his belief that new blood is needed to fix a broken Washington.

"Karoline Leavitt is the new voice and principled vote New Hampshire needs in Congress. Karoline will be a fighter on day one to stop the out of control federal spending that is driving up the cost of everything from groceries to interest rates, and she supports increasing domestic energy production. Karoline has my vote, and I hope she has yours," the governor said.

Leavitt accepted the endorsement in a statement, calling New Hampshire the "best state in the country" because Sununu and the Republican legislature have protected what she calls "the New Hampshire advantage" by lowering taxes, passing a balanced budget, delivering on school choice, and defending the Second Amendment and local law enforcement.

"Chris Pappas and the Democrats are against school choice, raised taxes, spent trillions more dollars than we can afford, and support open borders and defunding the police. This is not the New Hampshire way. It's time to elect a commonsense conservative Congresswoman who will work hand-in-hand with Governor Sununu at the federal level, and I look forward to doing just that."

Sununu endorsed state Senate President Chuck Morse in the Senate primary over Don Bolduc, but did not endorse a candidate in the congressional primary.

While not endorsing Buldoc, Sununu praised him during a Fox News interview Saturday, calling him "an amazing individual with this war hero background that just wants to stand up and serve."
