3 New Hampshire Towns Named Best in U.S. With Less Than 10,000 Residents

Did you know that New Hampshire is the 10th least populated state in the country? That means that many of its towns and cities were perfect candidates for Far and Wide’s list of the “Best U.S. Towns With Fewer Than 10,000 Residents".

Sure, we're a little biased, but we think New Hampshire has some of the best small towns in the country. For what they lack in residents they make up for in character, scenery, food, and activities. Sometimes quality is more important than quantity.

The following New Hampshire towns made the list. Are we surprised? Not even a little bit. The only surprising part is that more Granite State towns weren't featured!

#84 on the list was Meredith, New Hampshire.

Home of one my favorite restaurants, Town Docks.

With a modest population of 6,662, this pretty town sits on Lake Winnipesaukee and is a popular tourist destination in the summer and fall months.

Farandwide.com eloquently stated that even though Meredith caters to tourists, it has somehow maintained its unassuming charm. I couldn't agree more!

The site also shared the fun fact that the illustrator of the popular Archie comics, Bob Montana, made Meredith his home until he passed away in 1975.

#82 on the list was Littleton, New Hampshire.

What's so special about Littleton aside from its cute and petite name? Well first off, and perhaps most importantly, it is home to longest candy counter in the world, CHUTTERS!

Secondly, it sits at the foot of the majestic White Mountains and is the home to the oldest ski shop in the country (Lahouts on Union Street).

We've got history, we've got candy, we've got gorgeous mountains, what more could you ask for in a small town?

#24 on the list was Harrisville, New Hampshire.

I wouldn't qualify this town as small; I would call her TEENSY! With a population of 961, this rural town is so well preserved, and manages to sit on 10 different lakes and ponds. So many opportunities for visitors to take in those water views. Farandwide.com says that Harrisville is the only New England 19th century industrial community that remains in its original form.
