If this forecast from WMUR-TV is correct...this is going to be one of the coldest Thanksgiving on record. Add in the snow showers, and maybe a squall or two for good measure...and we've got some nasty weather to look forward to over the holiday.

Cold weather certainly presents some challenges to those of us living in New Hampshire. Particularly seniors and kids. But extreme cold can kick your butt even if you're in great shape.

So keep these tips from the US National Weather Service Gray ME in mind when dressing for the cold.

I can tell you from personal experience after living in Iceland for a year...ALL of these tips are great. But here are 5 of the the ones you should ALWAYS follow.

Wear a hat. That losing half of your body heat through the top of your head is legit. Plus frost bite on your ears isn't a joke.

If you're like me...you prefer gloves over mittens. But after surviving life in Iceland for a year, I can tell you mittens are SO much better than gloves when trying to stay warm.

Layering your clothes is another solid tip. According to the website backpacker.com...no matter how frigid the temperature...always wear a light, long-sleeved base-layer next to your skin. Put a thin mid-layer over that... either wool, polyester, or a blend of the two. Then a puffy, zippered jacket with a hood. Finally, a shell made of a waterproof or breathable fabric with taped seams.

Try to stay dry. Not that hard if you're out for a short amount of time. But if you plan on spending the day in the snow, it get's a little more difficult.

Living in the Granite State we have to learn how to embrace the winter weather. So bundle up, get outside and enjoy yourself and have some fun.
