5k Race for Marine Mammals Happening This Saturday in Rye, NH
As the weather continues to warm up, more and more 5k's and half marathons are happening statewide.
Just a few weeks ago, the Great Bay Half Marathon and 5k took place in downtown Newmarket. On June 10, Newburyport, MA, will have their annual Flag Day 5k in support of injured Massachusetts soldiers. Nine days later, the Smuttynose Will Run for Beer 5k is kicking off in Hampton, NH, where participants can enjoy great food, drinks, and music after completing their run.
Another 5k is scheduled for this Saturday, April 30, at 9 AM, and is a chance for you to have fun, get some exercise, and help save the seals.
The Rescue Run: Race for Marine Mammals is hosted by the Seacoast Science Center in Rye, NH, and is their largest annual fundraising event according to their website. All the proceeds go towards the Center's Marine Mammal Rescue Program, which focuses on "stranded marine mammal response, care, and community outreach in New Hampshire and Northern Massachusetts."
You can view the 5k race trail map here, and learn more in the video below.
The website says that various prizes will be given out "for the fastest male and female overall times, as well as top finishers in gender and age categories and best ocean-themed costume." So, now's your chance to break out that crustacean costume and be as fabulous as this viral TikTok shrimp.
Just imagine being that 'shrimp-tastic.'
Anyway, the website goes on to state that the terrain for this race ranges from the beach to the forest. It's by no means troublesome, but don't anticipate running on smooth concrete for this one.
Runners ages 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult, and also have the option of participating in the Kids Fun Run. Please note that no pets are allowed in the park.
