Being new to New England and experiencing the snow and cold temperatures, I’m definitely following the rules.

One of which, is you gotta clear your car from the snow and ice. I’m told it’s a law and you can get cited for not doing so.

I’ve seen it a couple of times and almost got hit once on 95 the other day.

Turns out, the law has been in effect since 2002, requiring drivers to clean off their cars of ice and snow, according to WMUR.

The news station stated that "Jessica Smith was killed when ice from a tractor-trailer hit a box truck that ended up hitting her car." Thus, why the law has been dubbed "Jessica's Law."

In fact, drivers who are found guilty of breaking the law can get fines of $250 to $500 for a first offense and $500 to $1,000 for subsequent offenses, according to WMUR.

Check out this video below of snow coming off a big rig can do to your car. It is not something to mess around with.

And check out this video from a Massachusetts State Trooper on how to clean off your vehicle. For those of you that are new to this like me, it’ll help.

Bottom line is…..clean off your car!!
