While not endangered, seeing a Scarlet Tanager in NH is not an everyday occurrence. Here is every photo from my exciting encounter (all 5 seconds) this weekend.

The Northern Cardinal seems to be more common than a pigeon these days so it is an easy mistake to make to assume that the flash of bright red with black wings is that of a cardinal. At this point of the investigation I STILL wasn't 100% sure.

AHA! No crest and a much brighter shade of red. EUREKA! A tanager for sure. Now if I can only get the little guy to turn and smile for the camera.

Yep! I saved the best for Instagram. Although you can tell that my hand was shaking ever so slightly at the time of the photo. Three large motorcycles roared by and this little tanager was long gone and hard to find once again.
