Central Maine Power Bills Are Going Up In July

We know this is the last thing you want to hear. It's like… How could this year get any worse?! Can 2020 be over already? And as if we didn't have enough on our plates and not enough in our pockets, Central Maine Power is going to raise our monthly bills, according to WMTW. CMP says it is an "avoidable cost due to two back-to-back storms in October and November, 2019." The report indicates that 230,000 customers lost power in October, and 180,000 customers didn't have power in November.

WMTW says the average increase is approximately $2.50, which doesn't seem like much unless you are unemployed. When money is tight, you feel the pinch of cost-of-living increases.

The rate hike will go into effect starting on July 1st, 2020.

David Flanagan, Executive Chairman of Central Maine Power, said:

… Because of the impact on Maine people by the COVID pandemic, we urged the Maine Public Utilities Commission to reduce the monthly costs by spreading them out over three years instead of the usual one, and to defer additional storm cost funding.
