Work began earlier this month on efforts to open the Mt. Washington Auto road for the season.

According to the Union Leader, five miles of the 7.6 mile road has already been cleared. As soon as the work is complete, the road will be open to private vehicles.

Memorial Day weekend is when the Auto Road hopes to start their guided tour season.

I believe I'm one of only a handful of people who live in New Hampshire who has never been to the summit of Mt. Washington. I don't remember turning down any opportunities to go up there. For some reason, it hasn't been on my radar.

But more and more, it's become somewhat of an itch that I must scratch.

I'll take the Cog Railway up and knock that off my list as well.

I know what you're thinking and you're right. Perhaps I don't deserve to call myself a NH resident.
