I don't mean to live in the past, but if it meant I could salivate over a plate of juicy chicken from Salvage BBQ for just one more night.. consider me still stuck there.

We're all very well aware that Maine has had its' fair share of restaurant turnover, but that's not the reason you're here right now. We're taking the nostalgic route and reminiscing on the best restaurants in Portland that were taken from us too soon.

Coals Bayside Portland, Maine

Starting off strong with Coals Bayside. An unassuming little dive that used to serve grilled pizza and some really disgustingly delicious wings. Sadly, in 2024 they waved goodbye to us for one last time.

Sisters Gourmet Deli Portland

When I saw their closing announcement on the gram I had to phone a friend to check if it was true. That was so incredibly rude of the universe to take the best sandwich shop around that even offered halfsies on the menu and throw it away right in front of our faces.

Right in Monument Square downtown this little shop made so much noise but in the best way possible. Good news though, not only is their Bath location still open, but they also still offer catering services in Maine so check it out here.

Salvage BBQ Portland

This one took me straight up by surprise. In fact I used to live directly across from it and I almost cried when it took them 3 additional months to re-open last summer. Who remembers bingo on Tuesday's and feeling overwhelmed by all the stickers on their poles?

Local 188 Portland

I can't say I'm shocked but I also can't say I'm happy about it.

Brunch with the girls in the corner window with the people watching booth full of pillows was always my incentive to go.

Hit up Tandem across the street if you can battle their line down the road. Worth it.

Anyways, RIP to the good ones we lost too soon and welcome home to all the new spots Portland has inquired over the last few years. Here's an even longer list of closures that you're very likely to find one you've been to before:

In 2010, I went to the top floor of a parking garage to get these photos of Portland from above. Things have changed some since then.
