I’m Confused by the Joann Fabric in Portland, Maine
Yes, Joann Fabric is devastatingly closing all of their locations shortly so that isn't the confusing part, it's when. Overall they estimate closing 800 stores according to NPR.
Are all Joanne Fabric's going out of business?
Yes. Unfortunately they do plan to shut down all 800 locations across the globe as NBC News says.
I love this little game they're playing at their Portland location though. In the plaza near Jersey Mike's and Lowe's is my favorite Joanne location with all the huge yellow closing sale signs. Here's where I'm confused. Are they keeping their closure date a secret?
When are Joanne Fabric's closing for good?
I have to drive past this store every day on my way home from work so it's inevitable that I see what signs they're putting up along like "everything must go".
I make it a point to see if today is the day they finally shut the whole operation down but it doesn't seem like it's going anywhere yet.
When I went in for a little mental health romp the other day, the sales did not mirror what you'd think a final "blowout sale" would mirror. Confusing.

Some of their stuff is only 5% off and the biggest discount you'll see is 30% off. Is that considered "major markdowns"? Am I the crazy one here expecting to see percentages like 60-80% off?
It's like a dang scam to get us in the door from the street and while I was annoyed, I also had to respect the hustle. Furthermore, the cashier gave me some inside scoop when I asked her when the final closing date was so that I could prepare.
Not only did she have any idea, but she told me that she comes in every day prepared fo today to be the day they tell her it's her last.
After some digging on Newsweek.com, it looks like all store locations are expected to officially close down for good by May 2025.
