Director, actor, writer, and podcaster Kevin Smith, known for cult classics like "Clerks" and "Mallrats," recently stopped by "Late Night with Seth Meyers" and shared a story that New Englanders would find amusing.

Turns out, Smith made one tiny little mistake during a trip to New Hampshire.

He told Granite State native Seth Meyers that he had mispronounced the city of Portsmouth, but it was his delivery of the story that really sells the humorous mistake.

Smith recounted that while on his way to an event in New Hampshire, he asked a taxi driver at Boston Logan Airport how much it would cost to get to "Ports-mouth."

The driver, who Smith said wasn't from the U.S., corrected him by emphasizing the "smith" at the end of "Portsmouth," something locals would know.

Smith, thinking the driver was referencing his own last name, was momentarily confused. The driver clarified that he was just correcting the town’s pronunciation.

That's when the "Jay and Silent Bob" star expressed surprise that Portsmouth isn’t pronounced as it’s spelled, to which the driver humorously replied, "It's your language."

Take a look at the story from Smith in the clip below that starts at 55 seconds in.

Again, his delivery and telling of the story really makes it an entertaining one that pokes fun at both himself and the New England pronunciation scenario.

Smith always comes across as fun, upbeat, and authentic in his conversations, and this is just another example of that.

And let's be honest, there's a bunch of New Hampshire, Maine and New England locations that people get tongue-tied on all the time. Some of us locals even have gotten a name wrong once or twice, right?

We see you, places like Worcester, Topsham and Exeter.

What's a New England place you've mispronounced?
