Blink’s Fry Doe Has Been a Hampton Beach, NH, Ritual for Over 50 Years
Close your eyes for a second and envision: Salt in the air, waves crashing, music on the boardwalk, and that delicious smell of fried dough.
Heaven, right?
And if you ask me (a self-proclaimed lifelong foodie), nothing screams summer louder than fried dough on the beach!
This Hampton Beach staple has been feeding sunburnt, sandy, very happy people for decades: Blink’s Fry Doe.
This isn’t just a snack stop; it’s part of the beach's identity.
Here's a little backstory for you:
Blink’s first opened back in 1974! Founded by Bob “Blinky” DiFeo, who turned a simple boardwalk treat into a summer tradition for generations of beachgoers. For more than 50 years, the smell of fresh fried dough permeating the air through Hampton Beach has been a well-known signal that summer has officially arrived.
And the history behind the name?
"The reason we use Doe it in our name is our recipe was crafted and perfected for the seacoast by this legend, John Doe. We have used the same ingredients and process for over 50 years!"
According to Seacoast Online, "the stand officially marked its 50-year milestone and saw a transition in ownership in 2024". That's when the next chapter of Blink’s began under new leadership, after decades of family-run tradition.
That kind of longevity is hard to come by.
For me, fried dough at the beach is one of those non-negotiable summer moments. It’s messy in the best way: powdered sugar on your shirt, a little glaze on your fingers, and zero regrets. Because fried dough just tastes like vacation.

And Blink’s gets that.
You can't replicate the instant nostalgia you feel the second you sink your teeth into its pillowy, sweetness. Families who came to Blinky's as kids are now bringing their own kids. That's the kind of legacy this iconic Hampton Beach staple has built over the last five decades.
In a place where everything moves fast and summer never quite feels long enough, Blink’s is one of those steady constants: simple, sweet, and memorable.
