Why New Hampshire’s Castle in the Clouds is the Perfect Day Trip Escape
I’ve been going to Castle in the Clouds in New Hampshire since I was a little kid, and no matter how many times I visit, it never loses its magic.
But now, it’s become one of my favorite spots for the perfect day date, whether that’s with family or a group of girlfriends
Perched high above Lake Winnipesaukee, this mountaintop escape offers the kind of setting that instantly slows you down and makes you want to soak in every moment.
Horseback Riding at Castle in the Clouds in New Hampshire
Start your day with one of the most unique experiences on the property: horseback riding. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Ossipee Mountains, guided trail rides take you through peaceful wooded paths and open landscapes that feel straight out of a movie.
It’s a fun, memorable way to connect with nature and with whoever you’re spending the day with.
Food at Castle in the Clouds in New Hampshire
After your ride, there’s nothing better than sitting down for a relaxed lunch at the Carriage House Restaurant. Open from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. throughout the season, it’s the perfect place to unwind and refuel.
Whether you’re in the mood for a fresh salad, a hearty sandwich, or something lighter such as soup, the menu offers a little bit of everything, all paired with stunning views of Lake Winnipesaukee.
It’s the kind of spot where you can linger, catch up, and really enjoy the atmosphere.
If you’re looking for something quick before or after your plans, the Café in the Clouds offers casual grab-and-go options from a walk-up window, but the sit-down experience at the Carriage House really makes the day feel special.
Touring Lucknow Mansion Castle in the Clouds in New Hampshire
And if you have time, it’s always worth taking a tour of the historic Lucknow Mansion. Castle in the Clouds website notes that it was built between 1913 and 1914 by Thomas Plant as a summer home for his wife, Olive Plant.
The mansion adds a layer of history and charm to your visit and gives you an even deeper appreciation for the property.
