Marguerite Motel Postcard Reveals Hampton Beach Cabins From 50 Years Ago

Before the Marguerite Motel stood in its current form, the property was home to a collection of small seasonal cabins known as Marguerite Court.

For generations of beachgoers, those little cottages were part of the classic Hampton Beach summer experience. They were a place to stay, unpack the car and make memories just steps from the ocean and boardwalk.

According to the Marguerite Motel, the cabins were replaced by the motel visitors know today about 50 years ago.

And here's a fun way to put that time period into perspective: what would a stay have cost back then? While we don't know exactly what the Marguerite Court cabins charged per night, the Consumer Price Index offers an interesting glimpse into the buying power of the era.

According to the CPI Inflation Calculator, $45 in 1976 would have the same buying power as about $263.24 today. That is also about the same cost as their 1 Bedroom Apartment price per night ($260.00)...

Recently, the motel shared a photo of an old Marguerite Court postcard on Facebook, offering a nostalgic glimpse at the property as it looked decades ago. The motel says some longtime guests have been staying with them since the cabin days, meaning they’ve experienced generations of Hampton Beach summers.

One local wrote, "We stayed in those, loved them. Separate bedrooms, the table was folded against the wall, just had to pull it up. Fun times."

Another wrote, "We went in the 60s and rented the cabin on O St."

I don't know about you, but I love looking at old photos and getting a glimpse of how much the places we know and love have changed over the years.

Hampton Beach is certainly full of history and holds decades of memories for families that have been coming to visit year after year.

Today, the Marguerite Motel remains in the heart of Hampton Beach, less than a two-minute walk from the ocean. The family-friendly motel offers rooms, some with kitchenettes or efficiency-style amenities, plus an outdoor heated pool and on-site parking.

But for those who remember Marguerite Court, the property represents more than a place to stay.
