Inspired by a NH Woman Who Rowed Across the Atlantic? Here’s Your Chance to Learn For Free
Not very long ago, I wrote about an incredible woman (and a New Hampshire native) named Renee Blacken, who became the first woman to complete the Atlantic Dash solo.
The story was remarkable for a lot of reasons, but one thing stood out to me: she rowed thousands of miles across the Atlantic Ocean. Thousands!
When I talked about the story on-air, Garret and I both joked that we can barely make it through a rowing workout at the gym before calling it quits.
But it did get me thinking.
What if you wanted to learn how to row? Not alone, but with a supportive community that's passionate about the sport and eager to help newcomers get started?
Well, I've found a solution! Great Bay Rowing.
This nonprofit rowing organization has spent years introducing people of all ages and experience levels to the sport while building a strong sense of community along New Hampshire's Seacoast.
Their mission goes far beyond competition. It's about teamwork, fitness, personal growth, and connecting people through a shared experience on the water.
Now, they're inviting the public to give rowing a try during National Learn to Row Day! How cool is that?
The event is designed for beginners who have little to no rowing experience (like myslef). Instead of feeling intimidated, participants can learn from experienced rowers in a welcoming environment while getting a firsthand look at what makes the sport so rewarding.
Oh, and did I mention that this event is FREE?
One of the things I love most about organizations like Great Bay Rowing is how they bring people together.
Plus, I couldn't think of a better way to spend a day than out on New Hampshire's beautiful waterways.

You may not leave ready to row across the Atlantic like Renee Black, but you might discover a new hobby, make some new friends, and gain an appreciation for a sport that requires incredible dedication and teamwork.
