The remains of a man believed to be from Deerfield were found in what was left of a tow behind a camper in Maine on Saturday.

Maine State Police spokeswoman Shannon Moss said the body was found by firefighters responding to a fire around 10:30 a.m., and was inside the trailer parked at a home on Bradley Lane in Mercer.

An investigation by the Office of Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta used DNA to tentatively identify the deceased person to be Wayne Bouchard, 64, of Deerfield, New Hampshire. He was the owner of the trailer and was staying on property owned by his family, according to Moss.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
