Dover, New Hampshire, Barn Destroyed by Fire

An early morning fire destroyed a barn in Dover early Monday morning.

The fire at the barn off Sixth Street belonging to the Weeden family was first reported just after 3 a.m., but had been burning for quite some time, according to Dover Fire Chief Michael McShane. The barn was fully engulfed by the time firefighters arrived.

While the North End Fire Station is a mile from the property, the flames spread quickly, and firefighters could not get ahead of the fire.

All Dover firefighters were called to the scene and successfully kept it away from a house and other structures on the property. No residents, pets, or livestock were injured in the fire, according to McShane.

Mutual aide was provided by Barrington, Berwick, Newington, Newmarket, Rochester, Rollinsford, and South Berwick.

The Strafford County Scanner Alert Facebook page said that the barn was built by the homeowner's grandfather.

The fire scene was cleared just before 7 a.m.
