Vigil to Honor New Hampshire Hospital Staff, First Responders, Shooting Victim

A community candlelight vigil is scheduled Monday to honor New Hampshire Hospital staff and patients and victim Bradley Haas following Friday afternoon's shooting.

The vigil, hosted by the State of New Hampshire Departments of Health and Human Services and Safety, takes place at the soccer field at the corner of S. Fruit & Clinton Streets in Concord. It starts at 4:30 p.m.

The intent of the vigil is to "recognize the courage and compassion of first responders, mental health providers and community and to come together to find solidarity, strength and hope for our path forward," according a message from the Department of Safety on its social media.

Attendees are advised to dress warmly, as temperatures will be in the 30s at the time.

Support staff from the National Alliance on Mental Illness New Hampshire (NAMI) will be available on-site.

Attorney General John Formella has not released additional information about the shooting since identifying John Madore as the gunman who fired at Haas in the lobby of the the 184-bed mental health facility.

During a Saturday press briefing, Formella said he did not know if Madore had any connection to the 184-bed mental health facility. However,  Superior Court records show that Madore was charged with second-degree assault, simple assault, and reckless conduct charges in January 2016.

John Madore had been a patient at New Hampshire Hospital in 2016, according to Stafford County court records obtained by Patch. His competency to stand trial became an issue.
