John Lennon and Yoko Ono had what could be fairly described as a “turbulent” relationship prior to his murder in 1980. The behind-the-scenes dramatics have become public knowledge, with the notion that she tore the Beatles asunder so ingrained in the pop-cultural landscape that her name has become synonymous with the act of breaking up a band. Recent investigations have delved even further into Lennon’s past and unearthed even more unsavory material. Lennon and Ono made some brilliant music together and vitally spoke out against the Vietnam War, but to quote Carmela Soprano, “That was not a marriage made in heaven.”

How intriguing, then, that today brings the news of a developing picture chronicling the courtship and relationship between these two titans of the art and music worlds. Deadline has the exclusive that The Theory of Everything screenwriter Anthony McCarten has begun work on what the item describes as an “untitled feature drama” about Ono and Lennon’s story. Producer Michael De Luca provided an additional quote, one that may give those with a more circumspect knowledge of the Yoko-Ono household pause:

The story will focus on ripe and relevant themes of love, courage and activism in the U.S. – with the intention of inspiring today’s youth to stand up for and have a clear vision for the world they want. I am also honored and privileged to be working with Yoko Ono, Anthony McCarten and Josh Bratman to tell the story of two amazing global icons.

This relationship has gotten the screen treatment once before, when Yoko facilitated the 1985 TV drama John and Yoko: A Love Story. Here‘s hoping that this “love story” is less of a love story than Love Story.
