When strolling around downtown Portsmouth, it’s hard not to peek into the shops and eateries and liken it to Harvard Square or New York City’s Greenwich Village.

And now, Portsmouth has yet another attraction for which said other neighborhoods are famous for: a comedy club.

The Music Hall Lounge, located just a tomato’s throw away from the Music Hall proper, is now open for business.

Newly renovated from its days as “The Loft,” The Lounge is intimate and air-conditioned, with a full bar in the room. It has already hosted shows featuring Juston McKinney, Michael Ian Black and Adam Ray, and this Friday will host Comedian and Juilliard-trained violist Isabel Hagen.

The Lounge will delve further into music with upcoming performances from Bella White, Will Dailey and others. There will even be an upcoming conversation with Caldecott Medalist and author of “Jumanji” and “The Polar Express,” Chris Van Allsburg.

You can see a full lineup here and sign up for updates, as the club is set to announce its full comedy lineup soon.

Per the Lounge’s official site: “an open-concept, nightclub vibe with flexible seating options and bar & small bites, the revitalized space hosts high-quality programming from around the corner or around the world, including musicians, comedians, and authors.”

In addition to traditional comedy club table seating, patrons can grab one of six lounge chairs or pull up at a high table near the windows.

And oh yeah – I’ll be there on Wednesday, August 14, sharing the stage with some of my favorite and funniest friends. Hope to see (and hear) you there!
