Bethel, Maine, and North Conway, New Hampshire took the top honors in a recent USA Today poll.

For those keeping score, winter isn't for another few weeks. However, snowy weather threats have dominated headlines in Northern New England since Black Friday. With a few cold blasts, snow making machines are up and running, and most major resorts have already opened their season.

Friday, USA Today released their list of 'the best ski resorts and amenities in North America.'  Readers were asked to vote for their favorite ski hotels and resorts, ski towns, places to enjoy an apres-ski treat and go cross-country skiing. The east is fun, but with everyone raving about Aspen, The Rockies, and other territories, it's not like Northern New England can beat that, right?

Wrong.

In fact, Bethel, Maine was voted Best Ski Town. USA Today said the town with easy access to Sunday River is home to some of the best snow conditions in the East. Also, head to the Foggy Goggle or Matterhorn for a lively après-ski scene. Coming in a close second was New Hampshire's North Conway. Northern New England swept the podium, with Stowe, Vermont placing third.
