Worth the Trip: This Massachusetts Mexican Restaurant on Cape Cod Serves a Mind-Blowing Fish Dish
To say that I've eaten my fair share of seafood in my lifetime would be an understatement. It's my favorite. I recently had dinner at a Mexican restaurant in Falmouth, Massachusetts, on the Cape. I ordered the cod dish thinking that it would be good, but I don't think I was prepared for it to be mind-blowing good.
Massachusetts Has the Best Seafood in the World
Cape Cod, of course, has the best seafood in the world. It's New England. We know how to prepare seafood. I should have expected really good when I ordered the cod dish, but the Pescado Encornflecado at Anejo was one of the best dishes I've tasted in my life.
The dish is described as "corn flake encrusted local cod, fire roasted corn, cilantro-lime rice, house verde sauce and cojita cheese." I'll be honest, I wasn't eating the way I normally do, and wasn't really concerned about ingredients or calories. When the dish arrived and I took the first bite, I thought, "Oh my goodness, this is delicious." The fish absolutely melted in my mouth. The sauce was delicious, and the rice wasn't overly seasoned. The star of the show was definitely the fish. With Mexican food, sometimes the spicy seasoning can overpower the taste, but this was delicate flavor. Mind-blowing.
I don't know why I didn't expect it to be that good. Probably because Anejo is a Mexican restaurant. I KNOW I'll get a great margarita, but a cod dish?
Speaking of margaritas, I have never seen a bigger selection of tequila in my life. I got quite an education, let me tell you. At Anejo, you can order flights of tequila if you are undecided.
Check out the selection of tequila:
Falmouth, Massachusetts, is about 2.5 hours from the New Hampshire Seacoast (give or take), depending on traffic. We crossed the Bourne bridge late on a Sunday afternoon before Memorial Day, so the traffic wasn't too bad. You really should make a road trip specifically for this dish.
What is the menu item you'll travel for, and where is it?
