Meet Julian.  Julian is part lab, border collie, shepherd, and rottweiler.  He's 5 and full of energy.  My wife and I adopted him from Cocheco Valley Humane Society four years ago.  Julian was found wandering the streets at six months old, he then spent another six months at the humane society, so his first year of life was rough.  He had some issues when we first got him----food aggression, separation anxiety and a few others, but with strong leadership and constant training he has become a great companion.  The folks at Cocheco Valley Humane Society were fantastic throughout the adoption process.  They answered all of our questions and strongly suggested we have him trained by a professional.  If you are thinking of adopting an animal, check them out!  They're a great organization with great people that truly care about the welfare of animals.  Even if you don't want to adopt, you can still help them out by donating time or money.

OK back to Julian, so we had him for a couple of months, we were training him on our own at this point, and learning how to be responsible dog owners (mostly using Cesar Millan DVDs and books) until he tore ligaments in his knee.  We took him to The Animal Hospital of Barrington where he underwent knee surgery.  The procedure was a success!  Thanks Dr. Dave and staff!!

Julian is a lot to handle, especially in a situation where he is uncomfortable, but they are so great with him and we feel so fortunate to have them to care for our animals.  After months of recovery Julian was back to regular activity so we decided it was time for some obedience training.  We chose Sentinel Canine Academy because they train dogs and owners and they were conveniently located, in Dover, plus we heard great success stories from friends.  I highly recommend Chad, he was fantastic and had Julian at ease and obeying him from the minute we arrived.  It was a great experience and we saw results right away, plus Julian loved going to class!

Being a dog owner certainly has its ups and downs and can be very frustrating at times, but it's all worth it when you come home from work and he's sitting at the door with your slipper in his mouth.  So there you go, thats my boy Julian.
