Minnesota State Fair 2015: Best of This Year’s New Foods
Retire your Fit Bit and bring out your fat clothes. It's time to introduce the best of this year's new foods at the Minnesota State Fair.
In years past the fair has only introduced 10-20 new foods, but this year the list grew to 51 waist expanding treats (40 regular items, and 11 frozen foods). And with the addition of the 51 new food items this year it brings the overall food choices to more than 500.
If you're scoring at home, that's 41.6 items to eat each day the fair is open.
Now let the calorie counting begin!
- 1
Burger Dog
A ground blend of hamburger, hot dog, bacon, cheese and a splash of jalapeño on a hot dog bunWait, you're telling me I can eat a hot dog and a burger in one food now? OK I'm in. So instead of ordering a burger and a dog, I just order this. Twice.
- 2
Totchos
Tater tots smothered in cheddar cheese sauce with seasoned sour cream, bacon bits and green onions (chicken or taco-style beef optional).Chicken or taco-style beef optional? No. Mandatory.
- 3
Mac & Cheese Cupcake
Mac & cheese nestled in a breadcrumb crust, then sprinkled with breadcrumbs and frosted with a dollop of Cheez WhizBrilliant design behind this. I once made meatloaf cupcakes with mashed potato frosting.

Smokey's Breakfast Burger
Seasoned sausage and hamburger on a corn-dusted bun with applewood-smoked bacon, caramelized onions, melted provolone cheese, fried egg and a tomato sliceKey component to this slider is the fried egg. Everybody knows a runny yolk is nature's dipping sauce (or in this case, condiment). A+++

Seafood Slider
A lobster and seafood mix blended with mayo, red onion, garlic, celery, lemon juice and breadcrumbs, served hot on a Hawaiian roll with wine aioliI could see myself eating 1,000 of these. Love me some lobster/seafood cakes. I definitely would have to end with these so I wouldn't ruin the rest of the tour.

Sriracha Dog
All-beef hot dog on a cream cheese Sriracha-smeared bun, topped with bacon bits and drizzled with Sriracha sauceHere's what I love about this: Cream cheese and sriracha on a bun surrounding an all-beef hot dog. Salty, spicy, and cream cheesy; can't get better than that.

Hot Tail
Roasted pig tail coated in a scallion ginger sauceYou had me at "roasted pig." I honestly have never had the pig tail before but if it's anything like any other part of the pig I know I'll love it.

Stuffed Italian Meatloaf On-a-Stick
Italian meatloaf stuffed with Mozzarella and pepperoni, topped with marinara sauce and a Parmesan herb blend and served on-a-stickThis is what has me looking at flights to Minnesota. Good god. Did fair organizers know my weakness is meatloaf on a stick?
