The leaders of the Fab Family Fund, a charity accused of improperly collecting money that was supposedly going to women who survived breast cancer, are due to appear at Rockingham County Superior Court next month.

The state’s Charitable Trusts unit in the Attorney General’s Office got an injunction this month against the Atkinson-based Fab Family Fund and its leaders Shanna Pinet a/k/a Dr. Fabianna Marie, currently the chief executive officer of the Fab Family Fund; her husband David Pinet, treasurer of the Fab Family Fund; and Michelle Tolson, a former Miss New Hampshire and current president of the Fab Family Fund.

Shanna Pinet, who claims to be a naturopathic physician, is not licensed in New Hampshire as such. She does have an expired New Hampshire cosmetician license, according to state records.

According to state officials, since at least February 2020, the Fab Family Fund has held numerous fundraisers and solicited donations through its Facebook page and its website “to educate, facilitate and grant Breast Cancer Thrivers and their families an all expense paid trip for solace and healing.”

The Fab Family Fund claimed on its Facebook page and website that it was “an established 501(c)(3) organization” or a “501(c)(3) nonprofit,” but according to the Internal Revenue Service website, it has not received recognition by the Internal Revenue Service as exempt under 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The Pinet’s and Tolson are accused of violating at least four charitable trust laws in the state of New Hampshire. The state wants them to pay back the donors, as well as reimburse the state for the cost of the investigation and pay $10,000 in civil penalties.

On a website advertising herself as a speaker, Shanna Pinet claims to have raised at least half a million dollars for cancer research as part of her own healing from a breast cancer diagnosis.

“I knew I wanted my diagnosis and journey to help others so I did what I knew best, writing. I started a blog, wrote a book and became a Naturopathic Doctor. I have raised over $500,000 for cancer research, am involved in numerous organizations, and have just started a non-profit,” she wrote.
