When I heard the news yesterday of Luke Perry's death, I couldn't believe it.  I can't believe that I'm writing this now.  He was only 52 years old.  This is not just a disease for the elderly, as a report from Fox News says.

I reached out to the good people at the American Heart Association to get some tips on prevention of strokes and here's what Rosie Kelly, Director of Communications for the AHA, Manchester had to say:

Those at higher risk for stroke may have a form of heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes, or a diet high in saturated fat. Smoking and physical inactivity can also pave the way for stroke. These are all risk factors that you can treat or improve. If you have these risk factors, it’s important to know your family history, quit smoking, manage your blood pressure and cholesterol, maintain a healthy diet and exercise regimen, and visit your doctor regularly.
Rosie also gave me some great information that everyone should know from one of their Board Members, Greg Bairam:
Anyone can experience a stroke and everyone should be ready by learning the warning signs FAST. F- Face drooping. A- Arm weakness. S – Speech difficulty. T- Time to call 911 immediately if you experience these symptoms. Every second counts and time lost is brain lost. Stroke is preventable, treatable, and beatable if you know your risk factors and the signs and symptoms
