The sobriety checkpoint is scheduled for next week in the Portsmouth area. The specific location has not been announced. An increase in incidents of drinking and driving has led the State Police to take this action.

In order for the NH State Police to set up a checkpoint, they have to apply for a Superior Court petition for the action. According to a press release,"The “Sobriety Checkpoint” is one of the most effective methods of detecting and apprehending the impaired driver."

There's really no reason to drink and drive. Call a cab, call a friend, just don't put yourself or others in danger.

The New Hampshire State Police Troop A will be conducting the checkpoint.
