The City of Portsmouth will reopen its indoor pool during the first week of November with improvements possible by the closure brought on by the pandemic.

While many of the pool's activities will resume there will be restrictions on swim lessons and team rentals that involve children because of the lack of availability of the COVID-19 vaccine for children under the age of 12. That approval is expected sometime during the fall.

The Department of Public Works during the closure worked with the Save the Indoor Portsmouth Pool group and hired an engineer to evaluate the pool's short and long term needs. The city also thoroughly investigated a leak and other pool infrastructure issues.

The pool's filters, controls and chlorination system were all improved as well as a repair that eliminated a significant water leak.

A full schedule will be posted to the Recreation Department website once it is finalized.
