President Biden to Visit the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard

President Joe Biden will make his second visit to northern New England when he visits the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery on Tuesday.

The president will tout how the investment in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will improve the country's ports and waterways. He will also try to show how those improvements will help with inflation and supply chain issues.

"The president will highlight how these investments will strengthen supply chains, keep goods moving to help lower prices for working families, and enable the U.S. to compete globally," the White House said in a statement.

The bill includes more than $250 million in incremental funding for the Multi-Mission Dry Dock project at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, and over $6.3 billion in funding for procurement of Virginia-class submarines, which are repaired and maintained at the yard.

Sen. Maggie Hassan in a tweet said she would be at the shipyard to greet the president and "discuss how the bipartisan infrastructure law will support NH families, small businesses, and our economy."

The New Hampshire Democratic Party was excited at Biden's visit while taking a swipe at Republicans.

"While Republicans are focused on tax hikes and raising health care premiums, President Biden and Democrats are laser-focused on creating jobs, lowering costs, and improving our nation’s infrastructure like our roads, bridges, ports, and high speed internet," New Hampshire Democratic Party Communications Director David Pourshoushtari said in a statement.

Biden visited the Route 175 bridge the crosses the over the Pemigewasset River in Woodstock, New Hampshire in November as part of the White House effort to get the infrastructure bill passed. The bridge is on the state "red list" due to its poor condition.
