If you were alive and old enough to remember, you know where you were on Tuesday, January 28, 1986.

Thirty-three years ago today, the crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger was lost. Among the 7 crew members that perished was New Hampshire school teacher, Christa McAuliffe. Former WOKQ newsman, Roger Wood, was at the launch and witnessed the tragedy first-hand.

It was 33 years ago that New Hampshire teacher Christa McAuliffe boarded the Space Shuttle Challenger ready to teach a class from outer space. Tragically, we all know that didn't happen. I stayed home from school and decided to watch the launch on television. It may sound naive, but I kept waiting and waiting to see the astronauts float back down to earth with parachutes. Sadly, that didn't happen.

Roger Wood, former WOKQ newsman wrote a magnificent article for InDepthNH on his journey to the Kennedy Space Center to report live from the Space Shuttle Challenger's liftoff.
