ROAD TRIP WORTHY: NH’s Curious George Cottage Is For Kids Of All Ages

"Curious George" has been a favorite of kids of all ages since 1941. Did you know the authors of "Curious George" lived in New Hampshire, and you can actually visit the cottage where children's imaginations were encouraged to run wild?

The cottage where H.A. Rey and his wife Margret lived is now the Margret and H.A. Rey Center and is located in Waterville Valley, New Hampshire. The authors lived incredible lives: They were Jewish and were born in Germany. The couple lived there until the country became occupied by the Nazis, and they were forced to flee, according to the center's website. "They rode across Europe on makeshift bicycles in search of freedom," and had a manuscript about a very curious monkey tied to one of the bikes. The Reys lived in France for a while and then had to escape once again, when it was overrun by Nazis. They relocated to the U.S. and had a summer home in Waterville Valley, and the rest (as the saying goes) is history.
