The Police Departments of Greenland, Rye, Newington, New Castle, and Exeter are holding a Citizens Police Academy beginning April 19th and ending on June 7th.

The academy is sponsored by Seacoast Crime Stoppers and meets Tuesday evenings from 6-10PM for 8 weeks. According to Seacoastonline.com,

The goals of the Citizens Police Academy are to bring citizens closer to their police departments, bring a greater understanding of the role of the police officer in the community and provide a forum to address community concerns direct to the police departments. Goals also include expanding the participants’ understanding of the laws and police procedure and increasing public awareness about crime prevention techniques.

The Citizens Police Academy is free to take part in, but you must be over 18. Class size is limited, so apply soon at cityofportsmouth.com/police or grab an application from the Portsmouth Police Department. Thursday March 31st is the deadline.
