It was a typical day.  I was running errands on a Saturday morning because I work so much that I have no time to get groceries during the week.

I had a list in my hand, grabbed a cart, put my bag on my shoulder, and whisked down the first aisle for some milk.  Milk is always a challenge in my household.  We have one child who's lactose intolerant, another who only drinks almond milk, and my husband who's a whole milk guy.

So, I pulled my shopping cart up to the milk aisle, and without thinking, put my purse in the child seat in the cart and reached over to get the three different types of dairy options. It literally took me 10 seconds.  I never left my cart, only reached over to grab the half gallons.

By the time I put my milks in the cart, my purse was gone.  It had been snatched away without me seeing anyone.  In fact, I looked around, and there was nobody else in the aisle.

At this point, I realized my purse with my wallet, my keys, my phone, my credit cards, and cash were all gone.  I started to panic, but then became angry, and ran up to the first employee I could find to tell them my bag was stolen.

About the same time I found a teen employee who had no idea what I was talking about, a mature person approached me and asked what the problem was.  I started babbling about my purse being stolen, and he cut me off and said "Come with me".

He brought me through the swinging doors to the back stock room filled with veggies and grocery products.  There was a man and a woman there, and another security person who was watching the pair.

Much to my surprise, the mature man was the general manager of the store.  He said they had been watching this couple the past few days, and they never bought anything. Security cameras showed they were trying to prey on unsuspecting customers, but they hadn't caught them stealing until today.

I was in the right place at the right time (or the wrong time for me) and security not only caught the woman passing my cart, grabbing my purse, and then handing it off to her partner at the end of the aisle, but the security person was waiting for them at the corner of the aisle to grab them.  Police were called, and the GM asked me to describe my purse, its contents, and my full name and address.

I was completely rattled, but complied, and after waiting for police, my purse was returned to me with nothing missing except a little piece of my pride.  How could I be so unaware? Why would I not keep my purse on my shoulder?

All turned out well for me, as I had a diligent manager at my supermarket.  Sometimes we rush so much we forget to take minimal precautions to prevent theft or injury.
