There’s A New Beer Garden Hiding In The Heart Of Gonic NH?
Follow the 'Beer Here' signs on Main Street in Gonic NH and you'll quickly find yourself downing delicious pints, crafted right there in The Gonic Mill!
Along the banks of the mighty Cocheco River is where you'll find Back Hill Beer Company. This outside dining area that I refer to as a 'Beer Garden' is a brand new addition to the place and has only been open for two weeks.
If you couldn't tell by the artsy, diagonal tilt of my photo, I took this picture AFTER I drained three different delicious, ice cold pints of refreshment.
Triple Crown - Blonde Ale 4.4% ABV
Today Is Better - Berliner Weisse 5% ABV
3X Warm - Brown Ale 5.8% ABV
Observant readers will be able to tell that these photos were taken in the order that I drank them, as the first pic is upright and the beer is untouched. The next one, I gulped down half of, before I thought to snap it's likeness. And the third photo is almost upside down and backwards.
All three were glorious.
I'm an unapologetic fan of the 'Sour' craze that entered the craft beer world over the past few years and the 'Today Is Better' Weisse is made with both Raspberry and Black Currents. I can see myself drinking hundreds of these in the future.
The Triple Crown was a very smooth tasting ale and had none of the 'roofing tack' or 'poisonous pine needle' flavors that I associate with hops.
And the 3X Warm, which is served nice and cold, had underlying hints of coffee or chocolate, which I was told, are not in the brew at all.
Since I was starting to taste flavors that didn't exist, I decided to take a couple more photos of the inside. The vats are right there on the other side of the bar!
You get bonus points if you can see me in the reflection at the other end of the room.
It's so cool to have a craft brewery right in the mill building. When the perfect Fall temperatures return, I can't wait to sit outside and enjoy the many different Back Hill brands on a weekend afternoon.
They're currently open Thursday through Sunday. Check them out!
