There is nothing more certain than death and taxes. Who doesn’t remember the famous Patrick Henry statement.

And today is the day. I know, I know. It’s not April 15th.  Wasn’t last year either. Tax day last year was July 15th. This year, May 17th, 2021 is tax day. If you owe, you pay today.  Or look out.

Hold it.  It’s wasn’t Patrick Henry who had the line about death and taxes.  The line is “but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.…… and it was Benjamin Franklin.

I owe I owe it’s off to work I go.  Not sure what I would do if the government sent me a note saying “You paid enough. Let’s call it good this year.”

Actually not only did I get everything prepared earlier then usual this year, I wrote the checks and sent them off almost 2 months ago. Yes checks. The State of Maine gets more from me on tax day too.

Wouldn’t it be nice if every once in awhile the U.S. Government called or emailed and asked what you think they should be using our money to do. Some things they spend money on and I totally get and agree with.  Other spending, not so much.

By the way, Benjamin Franklin ‘borrowed’ the line.  Originally it was  And in The Cobbler of Preston by Christopher Bullock

’Tis impossible to be sure of any thing but Death and Taxes

About 75 years before Ben Franklin used it.

Patrick Henry said Give me Liberty or give me death.  Or a tax refund.
