3 Facts You Didn’t Know About New Hampshire in 1968
Here are three facts you didn't know about the Granite State from 1968, one of the most tumultuous years in our country's history.
1. Lyndon Johnson's Only 1968 Primary Victory
The March 12th NH Primary resulted in two American Presidents recording victories. Richard M. Nixon and Lyndon B. Johnson. Even though he won, Johnson's 7 point victory over Sen. Eugene McCarthy was seen as too thin a margin for a sitting President. He would withdraw from the race on March 31st due in part to his poor showing in the Granite State primary.
2. Dark Green License Plates
No 'Live Free Or Die' and or 'Old Man of the Mountain' image on these plates. These look more reminiscent of something made in 1908 instead of 1968. This one will run you $12 currently on ebay.
3. Oh, How We've Grown
Back in 1968, only 709 thousand people we're lucky enough to call themselves Granite Staters. Now, our population has nearly doubled to slightly over 1.3 million.
And is it just me, or doesn't it seem like 600 thousand of them are all originally from Massachusetts? Just sayin'.
