There are 62 McDonald's restaurants in New Hampshire, and all of them look slightly different. Some still have the old mansard roof that was an iconic look for McDonald's since 1969.

However, one thing that has remained the same for over 50 years is the iconic golden arches sign in front of every McDonald's. Still, there are a few McDonald's signs in New Hampshire that appear very different, and people have wondered why.

In the Facebook group McDonald's Collectors, Keith Crab posted a picture of this McDonald's sign, saying "I have no idea why this McD road sign has a frame around it. It is in Meredith, NH."

As someone who drives past this McDonald's at least a few times a year to visit Funspot, I kind of wondered that myself.

There were a few people who chimed in to try to shed some light on the mystery of this unique sign.

Erik Swanson commented:

As a New Hampshirite I can tell you that there were several "colonial-themed" McDonald's in the region for years. They later got rid of all the colonial stuff but they kept the signs. There's one in downtown Concord where I eat lunch every day.

Tina Mudgett Fecteau commented:

I believe it was an architectural feature the town wanted. My husband was one of the managers that opened that store in 1985. We met there shortly after it opened.

Michael Falcone noted:

Love that location and that frame matched the decor up to last year.

It seems that Tina has the best inside scoop on why this sign is the way it is. I kind of like it. It's unique, and I always look for it as I'm headed to Funspot. It's become a unique landmark for me.
